You may search

1) for specific words or phrases.  This will be most useful to those seeking information related to a specific subject, researcher, educational institution, etc.

Enter the word(s) you wish to find and click the Search button. Entries will be returned that contain matches of the text you have entered, regardless of case. By default, searches will be performed on grantees, titles, contacts, and keyword fields. If you wish to search through all text in the database click "full text." (This may be somewhat slower.)

2) using an Indexed Search.  You may browse the database by pre-determined categories—Subject, Medium, and Year. Clicking on one of these will take you to subsequent screens of related lists, which lead to detailed listings of individual grants.

At the bottom of each grant listing is one or more keywords. Clicking on one of these will display a list of all other grants related to that keyword.

Terms

Project Subject—The general subject area for which the grant was awarded, e.g. Landscape Architecture, Theory and Criticism, Historic Preservation, etc.

Project Medium—Generally the medium through which the project will be expressed, i.e., Publication Support, Exhibition Support, Film/Video/Internet/Multimedia.

Project Year—A listing of all grants sorted by the year in which they were awarded. To make these long lists more useable they are subcategorized by Focus and Type.

About this project

The Graham Foundation receives approximately 500 applications for support each year, of which about 100 receive awards. Until now, a list of annual grantees was available only in print.

We have put this data online in a searchable form because we intend these abstracts to be utilitarian data rather than only historical records. We seek to inform an interested audience; to connect authors and publishers; to associate like-minded scholars; to inform potential participants about contemplated symposia or exhibitions; and, to remind exhibitors and institutions of creative and experimental work that is underway.

We have made every attempt to be current and accurate, but neither currency nor accuracy is assured. Many of the projects described in this section are works in progress, the content and concept of which will surely change over time. For the abstracts, keywords, and much of the project designation, we have turned as many of the judgement decisions as possible over to the grantees themselves. In doing so, we have sacrificed consistency of style for authenticity of description.

If you are a grantee and would like us to add an e-mail or website address to your project entry in our database, please send an e-mail to swhitlock@grahamfoundation.org.
